INTRODUCTION

A significant revolution with software’s usage in the civil engineering business and construction
process has been presented. Softwares reduce all the extensive work in designing and managing
the construction site. Nowadays almost all the design consultancies and construction firms use
softwares in their daily practices.

Hence, we at Nirmitee encourage the students by introducing this event – “SOFTCON” to show
their talent using softwares such as AutoCAD, MSP, Revit, Microsoft Excel etc.
Each individual software will be conducted as an independent sub-event. The
participants must choose any one of the softwares mentioned below.

The softwares which have been included for the event are:

▪ AutoCAD

▪ Microsoft Project

▪ REVIT(BIM)

If the participants do not have the software installed in their system, then the team
will assist them throughout the installation process.

EVENT FORMAT:

Each software event would be conducted in the format given below:

Round 1: Submissions of work via email.
(Shortlisting of entries via judges)

Round 2: Interviewing shortlisted candidates.

ROUND DETAILS:

The event will be conducted in 2 rounds.

ROUND 1: Submissions of entries via email.

For the first round, problem statements will be given on the spot, and the participant has to develop
a solution for the given problem statement as per the requirements. The candidates should make
sure that the submitted work is authentic and credible to excel in this round.
The time limit for this round will be 90 min.
The participant must submit their work via email to [email protected]

Shortlisting of entries

▪ Participants will then be shortlisted with respect to criterion set forth by the judges.

▪ Selected candidates will proceed for Round 2.

ROUND 2: Interviewing shortlisted candidates

The participants shortlisted from round 1 will have to appear for the Final round. The final round
includes a Question Answer Round based on your work in Round 1. It may also include basic
questions about AutoCAD/ Microsoft Project/Revit/Microsoft Excel (for whichever software you
are participating in.)

NOTE:

The participants must submit their work as soon as the problem statement is solved in
required format.

Early and accurate submissions will be given more preference.

Rules for each software are mentioned below.

RULES:

AUTOCAD:

AUTOCAD is one of the basic software for drafting and documentation of the construction
projects which is developed by Autodesk. AutoCAD is widely used in the civil engineering field
because of its ability to plan sites in a lot easier manner than hand drawings. One can notice this
software usage in almost all structural design consultancies and firms especially in India.

The rules for AutoCAD event are as follows:
1. Only a single participant is allowed.
2. Time limit: 90 minutes (for Round 1).
3. The participant must already have AutoCAD 2018 installed in their system.
4. The participants will be given guidelines before starting their work.
5. The participant must submit their work as soon as they are done solving the problem
although an additional time of 15 min is provided for submission.
6. Early and accurate submissions will be given more preference.
7. Late submissions will be disqualified.
8. The participants must always be present in the Zoom meeting and must keep their
camera on.
9. The completed task must be sent via email to [email protected] in pdf
and .dwg format.
10. Decision taken by the judges will be final and binding to all.

MICROSOFT PROJECT:

Microsoft Project (MSP) is basically the planning software. It is used to plan the project by linking
activities with their duration to find out optimum duration for the project. Using MSP we can apply
the resources to each activity and are able to draw the cash flow charts and resource allocation
charts.

The rules for Microsoft Project event are as follows:
1. With your knowledge of civil engineering and logic, interlink the activities which are given in
the project.
2. The participants will be given guidelines before starting their work.
3. Time limit: 90 minutes (for stage 1).
4. The participant must submit their work as soon as they are done solving the problem although
an additional time of 15 min is provided for submission.
5. Early and accurate submissions will be given more preference.
6. Late submissions will be disqualified.
7. The participants must always be present in the Zoom meeting and must keep their camera on.
8. The completed task must be submitted via email to [email protected] in pdf and
.mpp format.
9. The most optimum duration is preferable.
10. The activity data will be given in Excel. Each participant will be able to copy data on their
project sheet with proper commands (Setting the calendar as per holiday and working day
given in the problem is expected).
11. After linking all the activity logically participant must submit the following in the Excel
format:
a. Critical path of the project
12. Time limit for each participant is 90 minutes (for round 1) and participants with the minimum
time with least error will be declared as the winner.
13. The decision of judges is final and binding to all.

REVIT (BIM):

Autodesk Revit is building information modelling software for architects, landscape architects,
structural engineers, MEP engineers, designers and contractors.
We can create the model using given data regarding the structure and further we can also modify
and generate different drawings of a structure in AutoCAD format. We can also analyze the model
and determine the material requirement for the structure (bar bending schedule, quantities).

The rules for REVIT event are as follows:
1. The participant must be able to operate the software on his own.
2. Time limit: 90 minutes (for stage 1).
3. The participants will be given guidelines before starting their work.
8. The completed task must be submitted via email to [email protected] in .rvt and
pdf format.
9. Judges’ decisions will be final and binding.
